It was Halloween of 2015 when I found out I was pregnant with Audrey. I feel like I remember every single detail of that day so clearly…
Derek and I had been trying for a couple of months, but we hadn’t had any luck. The night before Halloween, I started (what I believed to be) my period. I was so disappointed, but I remember thinking it wasn’t meant to be and that we would just have to wait until I moved up to Maryland with him to try again.
The morning of Halloween something strange happened. My period ended.
Derek was out golfing with is dad, so I didn’t have him there to talk to about what was happening to me… and I had to talk to someone because I was freaking out! I went downstairs and found his mom and told her what was going on. (I can talk about anything with her!) I also ended up talking to my sister in law about it, and we all thought it was worth taking a pregnancy test.
I went with them to Target to do some shopping for my nephew and to purchase a test. We were down the baby food aisle and I remember thinking..this could be me in a year..I could be down this aisle looking for baby food. I think I was in a daze that entire Target trip!
When we got back to my in-law’s, I went upstairs right away to take the test. When I saw the test line slowly appearing, I ran downstairs to my sister in law and asked her if she saw what I saw. Sure enough..there it was. A positive pregnancy test!
In the moments after realizing that I was pregnant, I told almost all of Derek’s immediate family before even telling him! Haha! It just worked out that way!
He was expected to come home from golfing with is dad shortly after I found out, so I had to act fast and come up with a way to tell him. I quickly scribbled out a to-do list with the first task being “knock up wife” and the second task being “drink a beer”. I set a cold beer next to it and that was that!
His reaction was amazing! He was in utter disbelief and so excited. We then face-timed family and friends to share the news!
Apparently the bleeding that I experienced the night before was implantation bleeding. (I feel like I’ve already been T.M.I. with this post…so if you don’t know what that is, look it up). 🙂
So many things can change in a year’s time.
Last Halloween, I received the best news of my life. This Halloween, I dressed my little baby up as the cutest lamb..and in a week she turns 4 months! In a week, I can cruise the baby food aisle and pick out her first little meal. It is unbelievable.
Without further ado, here’s our little ham-of-a-lamb on her first Halloween.
