My pregnancy craving for anything apple has been REAL! It’s Friday, and typically I post my weekly Friday Favs… but this drink takes the cake. We’ve all been a little under the weather since returning home from our trip to VA, and having something warm and sweet to sip on has been the perfect pick-me-up.
Years ago I was addicted (to say the least) to Starbuck’s hot cider drink. When my apple craving hit, my mind immediately went to that sweet, tangy yet smooth indulgence. Instead of making a trip out to grab one, I decided that it was time I figured out my own little recipe. Besides, its cheaper annnddd there is a lot less sugar added if you make it at home.
I researched a few copy cat recipes and the majority of them call for a cinnamon dolce syrup. People either bought the Starbuck’s brand or they came up with a DIY for it. I, however, don’t see the need for it. I use Apple Juice (with no added sugar), and I find that it is already plenty sweet on it’s own. I simply add the cinnamon, a little vanilla extract and a mulling spice packet to it as it heats on the stove.
Now, it has been a while since I’ve had the Starbuck’s version of this drink, but from what I remember, it tastes a whooollleee lot like it! It’s sweet, has a little spice and a creamy vanilla flavor to it… ridiculously good… and it’s just in time for Thanksgiving! Move over hot chocolate… warm cider is my new fav!
And if you’re not pregnant AF like myself…Im sure slipping in a little alcohol would really warm it/you up this holiday season! 😉
Hot Spiced Carmel Apple Cider (Makes 2 servings)
You will need:
- Apple Juice
- Mulling Spice Packet (this is optional, but it does add some warm flavors to the sweet apple juice)
- 1/4 tsp Cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp Vanilla Extract
- Carmel Syrup (holy yum)
- Reddi Wip
In a small saucepan, pour about 16 oz of apple juice to heat. Add the mulling spice packet, 1/4 tsp of cinnamon and 1/4 tsp of vanilla extract. (You can also add in a little sundae syrup if you want to sweeten it a bit more, but I find it plenty sweet without adding in extra) Heat to simmer, and then pour into your favorite mugs. Top with plenty of Reddi Wip and Carmel Syrup. Garnish with an apple if you’re feeling extra, and ENJOY!
